As of 2027, most international tourists can stay in Vietnam for up to 90 days with the electronic visa (e-Visa) system. In addition, citizens of certain countries are eligible for a visa exemption of up to 45 days. Please note that travelers from some countries, including Iraq, Iran, and a few others, may experience longer processing times or be required to provide additional supporting documents even after successfully submitting their e-Visa application (these cases generally have a lower approval rate. Visa on arrival or visa at embassy can be required if your E-visa application is disqualified.). For visitors from all countries and territories, if you are traveling exclusively to Phu Quoc Island (without entering any other provinces or cities in Vietnam and meet the entry requirements), you are granted for a 30-day visa-free entry.
Here is the detailed breakdown of the current Vietnam entry requirements and travel rules to help you plan your Vietnam itineraries effectively.
The 90-Day E-Visa (Standard for All Nationalities)

Since August 15, 2023, the Vietnam Government has applied Resolution 127/NQ-CP, which fundamentally changed tourist entry limits.
-
Who is eligible: Citizens of all countries and territories.
-
Duration: Up to 90 days (approx. 3 months).
-
Entry Type: You can choose between Single Entry or Multiple Entry.
-
Single Entry: If you leave Vietnam, your visa is cancelled.
-
Multiple Entry: You can exit and re-enter Vietnam as many times as you like within the 90-day validity period (perfect for side trips to Cambodia, Laos, or Thailand).
-
-
How to Apply: Applications are processed through the(https://evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/).
The 45-Day Visa Exemption (Visa Waiver)
If you hold a passport from one of the following countries, you do not need to apply for a visa for stays under 45 days.
-
Eligible Countries: United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Belarus.
-
Duration: 45 days (increased from the previous 15 days).
-
Condition: You must have a passport valid for at least 6 months upon arrival.
-
Note: This policy is currently valid through March 14, 2028.
Note: Citizens of ASEAN nations (like Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia) typically receive a 30-day visa exemption.
Can I Extend My Tourist Visa in Vietnam?
Important Update: Unlike in previous years, in-country tourist visa extensions are currently restricted and difficult to obtain for standard travelers.
-
The "Visa Run" Solution: If you wish to stay longer than your visa allows (e.g., staying longer than 90 days), the most common method is to perform a "border run." This involves exiting Vietnam (crossing into a neighboring country or flying out) and re-entering with a new 90-day E-visa.
-
Business Visas: If you need to stay for business purposes (up to 1 year), you should apply for a specific Business Visa (DN) rather than a tourist visa. This requires sponsorship from a legal entity in Vietnam.
Visa Cost & Processing Time
-
E-Visa Cost: Approximately $25 USD for single entry and $50 USD for multiple entry, payable online directly to the Immigration Department.
-
Processing Time: Typically 3-5 working days. However, we strongly recommend applying at least 1-2 weeks in advance to account for any system delays.
Pro Tip: Normally, you can apply for a visa by yourself, but if you want to ensure a higher approval rate or need an urgent visa, local travel agencies like Vietnam Tour are the right place to go. They can help increase your chances of success and even expedite the processing time for an additional fee (typically around $25–$100, or more for 4-hour or 8-hour rush services, depending on the situation and your nationality).
- Expedited processing fees (additional to standard fee):
- 2 working days: $65 USD.
- 1 working day: $80 USD.
- Super Urgent (4-5 working hours): $100 USD.
