Lying in the calm, warm waters of Van Phong Bay, 60km from Nha Trang, Diep Son is a mini-archipelago of small green islands. Known as “the road that floats in the middle of the ocean”, the island has recently become a popular destination and fascinates tourists with its wild and unique beauty.
What bewitches most visitors who come here is Diep Son path; submerged under the sea it connects three islands with Van Gia town. A 6 am when the tide is low, a sand path appears. It is about 500m long, 8m wide near the island but narrow to the 2-3m width the further it is from the island. When the tide is higher, the path disappears 1m under the water.
Walking in Diep Son is exciting and slightly nerve-wracking as you are walking in the middle of the mighty ocean. You can see schools of fish swimming along the path and jump above the water and you can wave a hello to the boats passing by.
The island has a belt of smooth white sand beaches and clear blue water around them. If you travel in a group, you can set up a tent, light a campfire and camp overnight on the beach, which makes for an unforgettable experience. Stay on the island for a while to experience the life of the locals and join them on the fishing trip to catch fish and shrimp.
You can also take a visit to Diep Son fishing village; it is still peaceful and ancient with coconut leaves fences running along the sandy roads and fishing nets filled with seashells surrounded small houses with thatched roofs.
The ideal time to visit the island is from December to June when the sea is calm and skies are clear and sunshine. The most interesting thing about Diep Son Island is its pristine nature, blue ocean, and vast, untouched meadows. It is the perfect place to escape from the bustling and hustling city life and immerse in the fresh atmosphere. However, the island does not offer many services, it is not suitable for families traveling with children.
