Discover Vietnam’s rugged and scenic northwest and its people first hand. By driving from the capital Hanoi to the remote area of the northwest we can see life as it truly is for the Vietnam ethnic minorities. Along the way, we encounter dramatic landscapes and sweeping panoramas as the rural population goes about its business. The names to be called in this tour are all famous including Mai Chau valley, Son La - Dien Bien history sites, famed Sapa, Mu Cang Chai with stunning terrace fields and a charming typical village of North Vietnam river delta, Duong Lam.

Day 1: Hanoi - Mai Chau 

In the morning, we drive on Highway 6 passing extensive farming lands comprising a sea of paddy fields split by tree-lined roads punctuated by limestone karst scenery. 
After a light lunch in  Hoa Binh Town, the capital of Hoa Binh Province, we cross two short mountain passes then descent to the mountain valley settlement of  Mai Chau. We ride straight to Pom Coong, a peaceful village of White Thai ethnic minority where we have lunch, dinner and spend our night in a traditional stilt-house of a Thai family. If time and weather permit we will visit Ma River to enjoy a short boat ride upstream Ma Rive to a remote Thai Village. Relax and have interesting conversations with the villagers before we walk back to the dock. Return to Pom Coong Village for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Mai Chau - Son La 

Breakfast at the home-stay before we embark on a beautiful drive up north to Son La. We may take frequent stops to visit minority villages of H’mong, Black Thai,… or to take photos. Lunch will be in local restaurant en route. The highlight today could be the tea plantations in Moc Chau Plateau, where you find the best green tea in Vietnam grown along the roads on hillsides. We reach Son La in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight in Son La.

Day 3: Son La - Dien Bien Phu 

It is true to say “the further you go up north the faster you heart rate”. We drive to Bien Bien Phu and may have interesting stops to visit villages and take photos. Lunch en route in a local restaurant. The highlight thí day could be the impressive pass of Pha Din. 
Pha Pin means Heaven-Earth, and according to local legend, it was the frontier between Heaven and Earth. Pha Din is some 1,000m above sea-level. Climbing and descending the slopes with their many bends and deep gorges is a really an unforgettable experience. We reach Dien Bien Phu in the afternoon around 4pm. Upon arrival, we may ride around to explore the town. Dinner and overnight in Dien Bien Phu.

Day 4: Dien Bien Phu - Muong lay - Sapa

After breakfast, we start our drive to Muong Lay under the shade of the giant Hoang Lien Son range. We will pass Nam Na hydroelectric plant and stop for photo shooting here. Keep our driving via Phong Tho, Lai Chau before entering the land of Lao Cai where the famous Sapa is located.
The road leading to Sapa will take you to the most breathtaking pass of Vietnam, O Quy Ho. This is the pass owing the highest road at 2000m to the sea level. You will have a chance to stop at that top of the pass to be stunned when looking down on the twisting path you have gone through. 
Depending on the season, we may stop at Silver waterfall for photo shooting before arriving in Sapa downtown. Relaxing and checking in the hotel

Day 5: Sapa trekking tour

We have breakfast at a hotel and prepare for driving for a short road transfer to the trekking point. We take the route trekking to Lao Chai - Tavan for today because of its stunning views with the moderate hardship and spare you some hours free in the afternoon so that you can self-explore the town. You can expect to meet beautiful terrace fields, visit local ethnic houses and walk through the village. 
Depending on your physical health, you may be back to the town early afternoon for relaxing and enjoying in your own way. 
Trekking:    4-hr trek – Moderate grade
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Accommodation: Hotel in Sapa

 

Alternative harder option ~ 15km trekking - We start hiking uphill on a large and rocky path for 2 hours along the narrow valley which runs between two high mountains passing two hamlets of the Black H’mong of Sa Pa Commune: Sau Chua and Sa Seng. Lunch in the village.
After lunch, we continue along the same trail gradually uphill the Den Thang mountain for an hour to Hang Da Village of the H’mong which sits at 1,800m height and over looking down the Muong Hoa Valley. Then, we enjoy an easy walk on high elevation for half an hour which offers great views of Muong Hoa Valley until arriving in Thao Hong Den, another village of the Black H’mong.
We getting downhill for another hour along a dirt track to Pho Village at the center of Hau Thao Commune. Dinner and overnight in the local house.

Day 6: Sapa - Than Uyen - Mu Cang Chai - Nghia Lo

Breakfast at your hotel then we will drive over the Hoang Lien Son Pass to Than Uyen, the beautiful town located at the foot of Hoang Lien Son mountain range. From here, you can admire the tremendous scenery of the greatest mountain in Vietnam.
Keep our program to Mu Cang Chai, where the most beautiful terrace rice field of the country located and have been recognized to be a heritage of Vietnam. We will have lunch at Mu Cang Chai then have the whole afternoon to enjoy the beauty of terrace rice field in Mu Cang Chai, Lim Mong and Tu Le before getting to Nghia Lo. Check in the mini hotel in Nghia lo and free time.

Day 7. Nghia Lo - Duong Lam - Hanoi

Today, take our last drive to back to Red River delta. After passing beautiful road, we arrive in Duong Lam, the ancient village of Viet people in the Red River Delta, which still preserve many hundred-year-old houses. It will be your unique experience as you walk along tiny ancient alleys, visit Communal House in Mong Phu hamlet – the only hamlet whose original village entrance gate remains intact, dedicated to national heroes. Enjoy the great home hosted lunch in the traditional atmosphere in the 400 years-old house.
After lunch, we will take another bike ride in the rural area around the village that lead you to green rice fields, an interesting house had been constructed hundred years ago for people working on the field to rest in the shade and breeze during the hot summer day. You also can visit the thousand-year-old tree line that was believed the place for Royal Elephants of King Ngo Quyen having a rest after training or battling before coming back to the village for the drive back to Hanoi.
