Hai Phong is also called “The City of the Red Flamboyant” because of having a lot of flamboyant trees planted in the city. There are many temples, pagodas, mausoleums, and shrines such as ancient Du Hang Pagoda, Nghe Temple, Hang Kenh Communal House... It is also famous for the historical Bach Dang River, where the national heroes defeated three Chinese feudal invasions.
Visiting Hai Phong, you will have a great chance to visit the well-known tourist attractions such as Do Son beach, Cat Ba Island, Monkey Island, Lan Ha Bay as well as interesting festivals like the buffalo fight festival. Don’t forget to try local the seafood and specialties there like “banh da cua”, “banh my cay”, etc.
Hai Phong features a humid subtropical climate, with hot, humid summers and warm, dry winters. The annual average temperature varies between 23ºC and 24ºC. The best time to go is between September and November when the weather is pleasant.
Located 120km to the east of Hanoi, tourists can reach there by car or train. There are several trains going daily to Hai Phong from Hanoi and vice versa. It will take you about 2 hours. From Ho Chi Minh City, you can take a direct daily flight to Cat Bi Airport in Hai Phong.
